Coconut Oil & Athletes

There are two types of Coconut Oil; virgin and unrefined. Refined coconut oil is tasteless where as virgin or unrefined has a nutty scent and a slight taste.

A few ways athletes can benefit from coconut oil:

Moisture your skin: Athletes shower more than most so to avoid dry skin apply coconut oil after showering. Be sure to apply to cracked heels and chafed areas, coconut oil soothes and promotes healing to chafed skin.

Fungal infections: Some athletes encounter fungal infections either from contact sports or from the shower room. Apply coconut oil to dry clean feet to help prevent athletes foot and/or to deodorize feet. Apply Coconut oil a couple of times a day to help fight ringworm.

Oil or butter replacement: Whether you're baking or cooking up a storm. Try replacing your next meal with coconut oil instead of using traditional cooking oil.

Massage oil: Add your favourite essential oil to make your own massage oil to help relax sore muscles. Massage into joints to help relieve arthritic pain. Try lavender, Eucalyptus, Peppermint or Rosemary on their own or make a blend.

Hair Conditioner/Detangler: Coconut oil is a good hair conditioner but also great to remove hair tangles. Tangled hair is common for long haired swimmers. Wet the tangled hair and massage oil into the area. Let sit for a couple of minutes and then start to comb through the tangled hair from the bottom up.

Enjoy!
