Portobello Mushroom Burgers

Are you having a vegetarian or vegan friend over for a BBQ or are you tired of eating soy burgers? Well I have a tasty solution to your problem. Why not try a Portobello mushroom burger?

Mushrooms burgers are great because they have substance, a meat like texture, they are loaded with nutrients and they are unprocessed!

Portobello mushrooms are full of fibre and contain a lot of water. However, they are also rich in minerals. They are a good source for potassium, phosphorus, copper and selenium. Potassium helps with muscle and nerve function and counteracts the effects of sodium on your blood pressure. Phosphorus is needed for forming strong bones, red blood cells and DNA, and copper is important for keeping your immune system, blood vessels and nerves healthy. Selenium is an antioxidant that helps form DNA.

I love to add a lot of topping so be creative when creating your burger. The more toppings, the more variation of nutrients you will be eating.

Here is a list of burger toppings that you could put on your burger:

Cheese

Tomatoes

Roasted red peppers

Avocado

Hummus

Pickles

Onion; red or sautéed

Lettuce, spinach, arugula, or kale
